Whatsapp will no longer provide Android users with free Google Drive storage. This is the reason.

Google has declared that backups made with WhatsApp on Android will begin to count against the cloud storage limit of the user's Google Account. The change will be made available to WhatsApp Beta users in December 2023 and to all Android users in early 2024.

Due to a change announced jointly by Google and WhatsApp, Android smartphone owners stand to lose a significant "WhatsApp advantage."

The modification means that customers' cloud storage usage for Google accounts will now include backups of media and WhatsApp chats on Android devices.

The users' existing Google Drive storage was unaffected by these backups. However, the situation has altered as a result of the most recent business policy modifications.

People who are now using Google Drive's default storage of 15GB will now need to be mindful of their storage usage.

In its Help Center post, WhatsApp stated that users will need to free up space for new information in order to restart backups if they are over the allotted storage limit.

If you’re wondering if WhatsApp and Google will stop your backups suddenly one day, rest assured that won’t be the case.

WhatsApp says it will notify users 30 days in advance before taking your free Google Drive chat backups away so you’ll have ample time to make necessary changes.
